Evaluation planing

Today, we have started our evaluation. For question 4, I had an idea to show 5 students who has not seen the film and film their reaction while watching the film on camera. Also a teacher. After they finish watching the film I have created 3 questions to ask which are:
1) What was the plot of the sequence you just watched?
2) Would you watch the rest of the film?
3) What went well and what would you improve?

I thought to ask a teacher aswell because I think they would have a very different opinion to the students, and this will have an understanding of the target audience.
Also when we are going to ask the students, we will ask mixture of races and gender so there will be a fair judgement.

The way I am going to film this clip was inspired by watching "Kid's Reaction To.." videos which I've found on YouTube.

NOSTALGIA: Editing (4)

Today our mission was to film the missing footages and add in the photographs I've took last night. After the mission was completed, me and my partner was watching through the film and decided to edit some sounds and add in some fading cuts to make the film look more professional not just have some kind of boring cuts.
This is one example of the cutting we used, it is called "Fade":
You can see Melodie and Harry fading in from the shot of Nicole. This gives an atmosphere of flashback. We used this simple cut in other flashback scenes also.

This is another example of where we used the "Fade" cut:

We used this cut because it shows that the characters are in a different location on a different day to show the time they used to spend with each other. This is important in our film as it shows why Harry rushed out of the talk show studio as he loves Melodie and how that question triggered him into thinking only about Melodie. Without these flashback scenes, the audiences and the viewers will not know the relationship Harry and Melodie has.

NOSTALGIA: Thursday

Today, at lunch I have filmed the scene of where the 98Boys are walking on stage. This took 15 minutes all together. There is one minor point which I don't really like and this is when (Harry?) Ben walks on stage, 1/4 of his head is not in the shot. This makes it awkward to watch and unprofessional. I was thinking to re film this scene, however the Attenborough hall was being used for parents evening so had to leave it as that. My partner has added in the photographs I've took yesterday in the appropriate space for the opening of the talk show.

NOSTALIGIA: Wednesday

Today, I have recorded a new recording of Ben M and have changed the script as me and my partner changed our thought to a gay couple so we had to record it again. During my free period i had changed the script and called Ben M over to record. The process took around 30 minutes. Including the editing process. The script matches with the slides which move on time which I am very happy about as this was a hard achievement to make.
Also this afternoon (few hours ago) I had been to Richmond by the bridge and the river to take some photos which looks like the couple has been papped. This was achieved by using a zoom lens. I've photograohed some branches in the shot as this would make it look more like a "papped" photograph rather than "photo shoot" photograph.

NOSTALGIA: Plan to film the missing footages

Today, my partner and I had planned to film the missing out bits on Thursday and film it during lunch time. The missing out scenes are:
1) Footage of Nicole appearing at the beginning of the talk show.
2) Photographs of Savvas and Jono holding hands.
3) Footage of the 98Boy's walking on the stage.
4) Melodie breathing.
5) The title of the film (WB Productions etc...)
6) Recoding of Ben Morris as narrator. (Recorded by mic).
7) Photograph of the city; London taken from the London Eye.

We must finish filming and editing by Friday. In order to achieve this, we have made this plan after writing down what is missing.

Wednesday - Recording of Ben M during free period.
                    - Photographs of Jono and Savvas after school (around 8pm so its dark).
                    - Photographs of the City.

Thursday - Footage of Nicole appearing at the beginning of the talk show during lunch.
                - Footage of the 98Boy's walking on the stage during lunch.
                - Footage of Melodie breathing.
                - The title of the film.

Friday - Edit everything during lunch and after school.

NOSTALGIA: Filming (4)

Yesterday, we have filmed the continuing scene of the flashback and the hospital scene of the very end of the film . This took us 4 hours in total to film. My partner had prepared most of the pops for the hospital scene and at last minute I had made a "drip" out of a plastic wallet filled with air. I had stapled this with the nazel cannula. We have used USB's and wires to make it look like they're for Melodie's breathing machine and etc. At first we were going with the "Over the shoulder shot" when Harry walks in the hospital. However as he was too high we came up with a different angle which was

NOSTALGIA: Editing (3)

Today we have edited the sound for the flash back scene. We have a recording of me playing a song cover and have ut it in the Final Cut Pro. We have edited in the sound and adjusted the volume and the duration so it is balanced out with the footage. These are screenshots of how I have edited them: as you can see I have used a Mud Removal on the EQ Effects column to reduce the noise in the background when we were recording. This is because we recorded the piano playing gone a microphone which made the recording echo and in low quality.

NOSTALGIA: Filming (5)

On Thursday, we filmed several bits for the missing footages. This took us about 5 minutes and we had 3 go's and picked out the best footage. There was no need for scripting as Nicole would not be speaking in this part.
This photograph is when my partner was filming Nicole for the opening bit of the talk show:

NOSTALGIA: Copyright of Sound Usage

My partner and I have contacted 5SOS's management company to get permission to use their song. This is because the song is Copyright so it would be illegal to use it without asking. Also we are asking for the song as we need this song for some of our scenes. Of course, we will be using some of our music/songs we have recorded my self playing on the piano.

NOSTALGIA: Editing (2)

Today, we have edited the scene we have filmed in Nandos, where Harry takes out Melodie out for a dinner and he gives a gift (necklace) for their 1st anniversary. These 3 shots are the main part of this small scene. It explains why they are at a restaurant, and by her face expression i the second shot you can tell that she is happy to see her gift. We can tell this package is for her as you can tell in their body gesture. Also the kiss she gives him afterwards shows she is saying thank you. At the moment we have only been able to make some simple editing by cutting and fading. However we will add some effects on the shots to make this look like a flash back scene. Also we haven't added any sounds, but we are both
thinking to add the sounds after editing the video with cuttings and adding on the effects.

To get some inspirations of editing for the flash back scenes, I have searched up some scene from a Disney Channel Programme called "That's So Raven" on YouTube. As I know this programme contains loads of these flashback scenes.

I've went through some of the flash back scenes from YouTube, however I've noticed that she is reading the future and not what has happened in the past, so even if we used the same method of editing it would not make a lot of sense. But I really like the idea of having a very high contrast on the footage as this made it look "unreal" and like a flash back.
I may do some more research on how to make footage look like a flashback so the audience will be able to understand the scene.

NOSTALGIA: Calendar for Filming

Coming back to school, me and my partner went through the film we have at the moment and see which scenes we need to film and edit by looking through the storyboard I've made. We both have noticed that we still need some more film, ing to do. SO, in order to organise what to film and where, I had printed out a calendar which I have found on the internet and printed out and wrote the days we would need to film and when to edit. I am in charge of taking the photographs and my partner is in change of organising the props and costume that we will need for this day. There will be quite alit of costume changing as we are filming different scenes in a day so if they were wearing thew same thing this would not meet the continuity.

NOSTALGIA: Lighting (2)

Lighting was very important for this film as theres a lot of shadowing, and because there are particular lighting we will need to use upon our casts we had to learn which lighting to use and how we are going to use them. The lightings we would use in the scenes in such as the talk show and the interviewing was so important and hard to get it right because there cannot be any shadows on Nicole's and the boys face because if there are any shadowing covering half of their face, this gives the expression that the character is "bad" and "evil". I learnt this from when we went on a trip to Sky. As this advice stuck to my head I suggested to use about 4 lights. One lit from the left side of the stage, one lit from the right side of the stage, one lit form the back side of the stage and one lit from the front side of the stage.
