NOSTALGIA: More Planning
We are now at a point where we have finished the storyboard, the official script, costume and prop check list. So I came up with the idea to organise more in depth with every different shot in the order of the shot/angle we are going to use, the action, which character (in the shot), what props, which part of the script, the duration of the shot, what lighting, costume and make up and how we are going to edit this shot. I decided to have this organised more in depth because I didn't want anything missing or any misunderstanding situations to destroy the day to film. Also I thought this would be useful for when we are going to edit the whole film so we know why we shot a scene in particular way.
I've decided the sections into storyboard paper 1, 2, 3 and 4. So it is simple for all of the cast members and I to understand.
Storyboard paper 1:
NOSTALGIA: Improvements/changes being made
• editing
• acting
• cast members
After filming for the second time, my partner and I decided to find someone that could replace the interviewer (me) because it was hard for me to direct the scene while I was acting at the same time. Also we replaced Jude King (Liam Hill) to Orkid Ramekaj because unfortunately Jude was ill and wasn't well enough to come to school and film. Also I thought it would look a little unprofessional to use an actor who is ill as the boys are meant to be energetic and motivated during this interview (apart from Harry Ward). We've replaced Ben King (Harry Ward) to Lewis Healy because Lewis Healy appears to be more of a boyfriend material guy. To add to this, Lewis Healy was a better actor.

Film Production Company - Warner Brothers
Warner Bros. Entertainment
Warner Brothers is an American Film Company that was founded in April 4, 1923 (91 years ago) by Albert Warner, Harry Warner, Sam Warner and Jack Warner. Their first film was produced in 1910 called 'My Four Years in Germany' and the company became well-known to the public after they had continued producing films during theWorld War 1 such as ''The Lost City'', ''School Days'' and ''Rags to Riches'' and when World War 1 ended in 1918 they had built their first studio in Los Angeles. 2 years later in 1920, the brothers opened their second WB studio in Hollywood. In the 30s, the WB Company was becoming more notable for gangster and violent films after releasing "The Public Enemy" (1931), "Little Caesar" (1931), ''G Men" (1935) and "Bullets or Ballots" (1936). So the audience group changed for a while from family and children viewers to "men in their mid 30s-50s" viewers. All these films included some sort of violence and fighting using weapons such as guns influenced by the Great War. Recently in 2009, Warners became the first studio to gross more than $2 billion in North America. I think if the WB Company was founded in 2014, the WB Company would not be successful as it is today. The reason why I think the WB Company is successful as it is today is because in the time period of 1900s-1940s there were rarely any film companies to compete with as there were not that many film companies and not many people had the money to actually go and watch films. Also with the power of the boom in the 1920s, many Americans had the money to go to the cinemas to watch a film during the week-end and this became really trendy which helped WB Company to become in the lead in-front of all these other companies and this gave WB Company the profit to go and produce more films and the opportunity to become bigger in the film industry. Another reason why I don't think the WB Company would of be famous as it is today is because there are already big companies such as the 20th Century Fox Television, DreamWorks, Paramount and Universal.
Warner Brothers are famous for their motion picture, TV programs and video games.

NOSTALGIA: Filming (3)
Day 3 - Filming
Today we filmed our restaurant scene for the flash back in the film.
We went to nandos restaurant located in Richmond. I was directing and filming the scene as my partner was acting in the film as the girlfriend character (Melodie).
I had my storyboard in front of me so I knew a bit of what kind of shots and angles I wanted to film in. However, I've made some changes from my story board because of the seating in the restaurant.
Also me and my partner agreed to join 2 scenes into 1, the dinner scene and the scene where Harry (boyfriend) gives the necklace as a gift to Melodie (girlfriend) in to 1 because we couldn't find any more time to film it in separate time.
The process of filming went very smooth as I had all of my characters I needed in the scene, the props and shots for the film. There was one problem with the prop, for me it was unexpected to join the 2 scenes together so I didn't have any wrapping or bags for the necklace. So I went to a shop near by and had to ask if they had any gift wrappers, luckily the shop was kind and gave me some.
Melodie wore a top that is out going and something you would wear on a date however casual so it fits in with the scene, and Harry wore down thing casual as its nandos and it is a casual restaurant.
The props I've used:
- food
- necklace
- paper bag and wrapping paper (for the necklace)

NOSTALGIA: Filming (2)
Day 2 - Filming
Today was our second day to film.
Kindly, my partner brought in some extra props and refreshers to motivate the cast members and to improve the look of the set. We also had one of our friend, Alex who we used to set up the lighting as he is very good at the technical settings.
We have used 3 cameras on the set.
This is a brief diagram of how we settled up the 3 camera:
Camera 1:
- Filming Nicole ONLY (Medium Shot - When Nicole is welcoming the 98Boys and questioning the 98Boys while the interview)
Camera 2:
- Filming the 98Boys ONLY (Tracking Shot - When the 98Boys are walking on stage after being welcomed and Medium Shot - While the 98Boys are sitting down on the sofa)
Camera 3:
- Filming the 98Boys and Nicole (Over-the-shoulder Shot - Over Nicole's shoulder you will be able to see the 98Boys being interviewed)
How did you film with 3 cameras with your woking partner?
What my partner and I did was; we were filming the scene from all 3 of the cameras at the same time and thought to use cutting and editing so we won't have to film it 3 times to achieve 3 different angles and shots. Also this prevented the possibility of having continuity error between different shots. As the casts and the sound and everything else would be filmed in all of the SD cards at the same time, they will be doing exactly the same thing even if we used different angles and shots.
Why did you come up with using 3 cameras?
We came with the idea of using 3 cameras because of one main reason which was having to deal with the continuity error. We have managed to avoid the continuity error because we had used cameras. Also another reason is because it would take less time to film. We have filmed the whole scene 3 times, however it only took about 2 hours because we didn't have to film loads and loads to make the scenes look the same.
Why did you place the cameras in that particular way?
I deiced to place the camera like shown above on the diagram because when I was watching some interviewing videos in YouTube for some ideas, they particularly used some over-the-shoulder shot and a lot of medium shot-reverse shot to focus on the main character who is the interviewer and the guest. However, we ended up not using the over-the-shoulder shot because some of the year 10's deleted the footage and we couldn't afford to film the whole thing again. From this experience, I have learnt to save any footage on to Final Cut Pro or the computer immediately after filming.

NOSTALGIA: Voiceover
Today I've asked one of my friend, Ben Moriarty if he could be the voice over from the start of our film until to the cut to Nicole.
We used the Final Cut Pro to record (Windows > )
I was planning to record the voiceover with a microphone however the plugs didn't work and I had no teachers around me that was available to help me set it up so I decided to try it out anyway to just test it out.
Before recording I have made sure that no noise were in the background and Ben and I went through the script a couple of times so Ben understands he needs to read the script with an enthusiastic, exciting voice as he is presenting the hottest gossip. By Ben sounding enthusiastic and exciting, this will make the audience excited, which will create a lively atmosphere. If Ben sounded boring and dull this is bore the audience and have nothing to look forward too, and will make the audience feel like they would rather be somewhere else.
Ben and I also went through the script a couple of times so he doesn't stumble or make any mistakes as if Ben did make mistakes and said the wrong word it is not professional.
The final planning Ben and I have done before recording was to time Ben saying the script.
By timing Ben, we knew when to slow down, when to pause and how to fit what part of him speaking in the show opening so he is not saying something different to what there is on the screen.
(For example:
If Ben was saying the part "Find out more about how Richard came out clean from the rehab" but the screen is showing on the part where a photograph of Chloe is shown, it is out of place and doesn't make sense).
Overall, I think the recording went well because Ben's voice was clear, no mistakes was made, and the timing of Ben speaking fit in exactly to the film and was perfectly matched. By today's experiment I learnt to be more organised first; to have the mic set up already and not to rely on the teachers beforehand. Also the recording was not in a good quality sound because it was done on a computer mic so Ben's voice sounded as if he was being recorded far away from the mic, and the volume being turned all the way up. From this experience we now know that we need to record Ben doing the same thing however on a mic so it is in higher quality and sounds more professional. Also so that he's voice is in focus and it sounds concentrated. I think this will be interesting as Ben and I can see the difference it makes by the use of different mic and compare the 2 recordings.

NOSTALGIA: Props (detailed)
We have used these props in our film:
(add photos)
These props were inspired after I have watched The Wendy Williams Show, The Ellen Show, and The Norton Graham Show. There are few differences between the 3 shows and what props they use. I see that The Norton Graham Show has the most props being used in the show than The WWS or The ES.
However, the all 3 shows has some kind of coffee table with flowers in a vase and some kind of drink like water or coffee for the guest and for the interviewer/reporter. Another thing I've noticed is that there are few props used in the background like plants. Also there are sofas instead of individual chairs for the guest(s).
To balance out what props to use in Nostalgia, we decided to come up with:
Talk Show Scene
- Bed sheets
- Pillows
- Towel
- Waterbottles
- Russian dolls
- Flask
- Tissuebox
- Coffee table
Flashback Scene
- Knife and forks
- Necklace
- Glass cup
- Plate
- Watch
- Glasses
- Bench
Hospital Scene
- Canula pipe
- Laptop
- Bed
- USB cables and wires
- Blanket
