Day 2 - Filming
Today was our second day to film.
Kindly, my partner brought in some extra props and refreshers to motivate the cast members and to improve the look of the set. We also had one of our friend, Alex who we used to set up the lighting as he is very good at the technical settings.
We have used 3 cameras on the set.
This is a brief diagram of how we settled up the 3 camera:
Camera 1:
- Filming Nicole ONLY (Medium Shot - When Nicole is welcoming the 98Boys and questioning the 98Boys while the interview)
Camera 2:
- Filming the 98Boys ONLY (Tracking Shot - When the 98Boys are walking on stage after being welcomed and Medium Shot - While the 98Boys are sitting down on the sofa)
Camera 3:
- Filming the 98Boys and Nicole (Over-the-shoulder Shot - Over Nicole's shoulder you will be able to see the 98Boys being interviewed)
How did you film with 3 cameras with your woking partner?
What my partner and I did was; we were filming the scene from all 3 of the cameras at the same time and thought to use cutting and editing so we won't have to film it 3 times to achieve 3 different angles and shots. Also this prevented the possibility of having continuity error between different shots. As the casts and the sound and everything else would be filmed in all of the SD cards at the same time, they will be doing exactly the same thing even if we used different angles and shots.
Why did you come up with using 3 cameras?
We came with the idea of using 3 cameras because of one main reason which was having to deal with the continuity error. We have managed to avoid the continuity error because we had used cameras. Also another reason is because it would take less time to film. We have filmed the whole scene 3 times, however it only took about 2 hours because we didn't have to film loads and loads to make the scenes look the same.
Why did you place the cameras in that particular way?
I deiced to place the camera like shown above on the diagram because when I was watching some interviewing videos in YouTube for some ideas, they particularly used some over-the-shoulder shot and a lot of medium shot-reverse shot to focus on the main character who is the interviewer and the guest. However, we ended up not using the over-the-shoulder shot because some of the year 10's deleted the footage and we couldn't afford to film the whole thing again. From this experience, I have learnt to save any footage on to Final Cut Pro or the computer immediately after filming.
